Georgia Chapter

GEORGIA CHAPTER NEWS

Greetings to all,

I hope this writing finds you well. I apologize for my inconsistencies in writing,

2023 has turned out to be busier than I imagined. I spent several weeks in northern Mexico on a medical mission assisting immigrants waiting to enter for processing or return for asylum hearings. I have been TDY with VA twice to disaster-laden areas. Sometimes, I think I am becoming way tooo old for these types of adventures, but somehow continue to find the energy to do so.

I received an updated membership roster for our chapter. We lost no members in 2023 and gained three. So, officially our chapter membership is officially now 23 members.

Welcome to:
Col (ret) Konnie Doyle
Lt Col (ret) Rebecca Gober
Lt Col (ret) Mary Truvillion

I will continue to find our USAF NC members through outreach via the media. I still have six newspapers in the state to send a Letter to the Editor discussing the benefits of joining SAFN and how to join. During Nurses Week in May, I ventured to Valdosta to meet the Chief Nurse at Moody and set-up a table display on SAFN.

Attached is a map of the state with marks for where each of our members reside. My goal for 2024 is to come meet all of you where you are at. After the holidays, I will send an itinerary.

Our sharing is caring holiday 2023 project: a Georgia chapter recipe book of our favorite holiday dishes. If you have holiday traditions that you adopted during your military service or a story of a memorable holiday while serving, please send them as well. I will be happy to include them. This project has potential to be a great gift this holiday season for all of us and our colleagues in other chapters.

Please send all submissions to me by October 15. I will compile a digital book and send to those with e-mail capability, and print/mail for those who do not by no later than November 15. I will send a copy to our regional director to share with other southeast chapters and maybe have posted on the national organization website.

Last, we have two chapter members on Outreach. During this last quarter of 2023, there are several opportunities to send them cards: Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

(2) Lt Col (ret) Mary Truvillion
send her cards in care of:

Darcia M. Hicks

If there is anything you need, please feel free to reach out to me at any time: 912-321-2255. Or to our regional Outreach Coordinator, Marsha Jordan at shamrock3524@aol.com.

Until my next writing,

Respectfully,

Robert A. Groves, Maj (ret)
SAFN Georgia Chapter Coordinator
